Seven Up (Stephanie Plum, #7) Seven Up by Janet Evanovich

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Continuing fun with Stephanie Plum. I laughed some more although this one did have a more seriously threatening villain so there was some deeper apprehension. Still – a great set of characters and fun read.

Zombie Zombie by Joyce Carol Oates

My rating: 2 of 5 stars
I have previously enjoyed Joyce Carol Oates, but this was just too weird! Not to my taste to read a story told by a sexually deviant serial killer. I was alternately fascinated that someone carried this in their imagination and brought it to life and simply deeply disturbed to be getting this view of such a twisted mind. I finished it because it was short and I was hoping for….what I don’t know, but I didn’t get it. I gather you need to be a graphic horror afficianado to enjoy a book like this.

I’m currently reading two books at once which is rare for me, but when a new book arrived this week I HAD to start it. I know I said no new books this year what with the pile I have but, this one came so highly recommended and I had pre-ordered it on Amazon back before I inherited all those books so I anticipated it would arrive just as I needed new books. That’s about right too because Seven Up was the last of the books I’ve had gathering dust in my room for the last 8 years and Zombie was the first from Jacqueline’s pile. The Bullpen Gospels is apparently the greatest baseball book since Ball Four – which only reminded me that I need to read THAT one too! I’d already started Wuthering Heights so how’s that for two completely different style books?! Yes, I am going to re-visit some classics from your high school English class because Jax held on to a couple of those. The copy I have is hers from our Bishop’s days complete with her underlines and notes. It’s pretty interesting to read it like that.

Did you know that Amazon will refund you if your pre order purchase amount ends up higher than actual retail upon release of the book? I didn’t! But two days after the book arrived I get an email letting me know they were refunding $1.95 back to me. Nice!

Oh – and I sold another book this week which actually more than pays for Bullpen Gospels! Keeping within my zero dollar budget 🙂

  1. I love the Stephanie Plum novels. So hilarious. Max wrote the screenplay adaptation but as far as I know the movie hasn’t been made yet.

  2. Interestingly, ‘Zombie’ sounds like something I’d enjoy, so thank you for the introduction to it! I love ‘Dexter’, both the novels and the TV show. Yeah, there’s definitely a dark side in me… 😉
